Reflection
This year I did my career day at a flight school in Montgomery Field Airport. I got to fly a prop plane, and take a tour of a flight school. I think that my career day this year went really well. I was nervous going into it, but when I got there, the environment was really casual and I felt comfortable. No one there seemed to treat flying a plane like it was a big deal. When I got up in the air, I was amazed. I flew over my school, and then my house. It was crazy how fast traveling was when you can go in a straight line at 100 miles per hour. Overall, I'm really glad I had this experience.
Interview
What in your educational background prepared you for this job?
"I was a pilot in the marines for 6 years, and I think that that really helped me prepare for civilian training."
What specific skill training helped you prepare for this job?
"I think that playing sports, like baseball and basketball, in high school helped with my hand-eye coordination. That really helps when you're flying a plane."
How do you interact with other people during your work?
"I have two receptionists. They help me schedule and book lessons, and schedule repairs for the planes."
To what extent do you find your work interesting and fulfilling and why?
"I find this job very interesting. It's not as interesting as being a marine, of coarse, but it is better than a desk job."
What are the most important rules of practices that you must follow in order to be considered a dedicated and responsible professional?
"I think that integrity is always very important, no matter what you do."
Is this a typical work day for you? If not, what is a typical work day?
"Usually I come in here at 6, sort out the office, and then work at my desk all day."
What are the different types of pilots licenses?
"There is a private pilot's license, which takes anywhere from 3-6 months to get, and then there's a commercial airline license, which takes about 12-18 months to receive."
Does the type of plane matter when getting your license?
"Well, typically, you would train in the plane that you are planning to fly. So, no, it doesn't matter."
