Reflection
The watershed project has bee been doing one large, overarching project this semester. This project was about the watershed that we live in, how it can become polluted, and how that pollution affects species of animals living in the watershed. In this project, I was assigned to the Elfin Forest team. This team that dealt with the section of exhibition that took place at the Elfin Forest conservation center. My partner and I were tasked with decorating the 3D printed model that another group made. This model would go on display at exhibition, and serve as a visual way to show how our watershed gets polluted.
This project left me with lot of knowledge on how pollution on a small scale can snowball into a major issue, and even lead to the extinction of a species. I used to not take things like littering seriously, because i didn’t know the exact impacts it could have on the environment. Now, I am going to strive to make improvement in my life to avoid pollution, because I will not be responsible for the Southern California Steelhead Trout from going extinct. I hope that next year’s students take this project as seriously as we did, and that they do their best at convincing the people who visit them at exhibition that their actions matter. Next year in biology, I’m going to take into consideration the things I learned about fish’s reactions to certain chemicals. This will help me more easily understand what is happening inside the water that causes the fish to migrate somewhere else. Undestanding a problem is the first step to solving it. Overall, the things that I have learned in chemistry this semester will make me a better person in the future.
